About Us

When the ball stops bouncing.

Beyond Basketball, Inc. is a mentoring program dedicated to equitable education and professional development. We are committed to building a diverse talent pipeline, and bridging the 91% disparity in STEM careers.

Why the name? We connect youth to community advocates through our shared love of the game of basketball. Our mentors help student athletes reach their full potential on and off the court, with programs focused on leadership development, STEM education, entrepreneurship, career readiness, community engagement, and wellness, both physical and mental. Originally named Alley Oop Hoops, we rebranded to Beyond Basketball to fully encompass our mission and the services we deliver.

The organization was founded by Raleigh-native Josh Haymond in June 2020, as an approved 501(c)(3) charitable organization, EIN 85-1483359. All contributions are tax deductible. No goods or services will be provided in exchange for the contribution.

Success in education and career, through STEM, financial literacy and entrepreneurship stewardship.

Promote a healthy lifestyle, through physical, emotional, nutritional, and intellectual learning.

We provide students with access to technology and internet, spurred by pandemic-related school closings.

We lead financial literacy and personal investment workshops with area high schools and universities.

In addition to pairing young people with mentors, we lead career planning and entrepreneurship workshops.
